Subject: Weekend Rides
I am trying to see how complicated I can make the October ride schedule by giving you completely different instructions every week - sometimes even twice a week if you are lucky.

This weekend I will be going back down to the Olympic Training Center to study Nutrition for Endurance Athletes with my fellow coaches.  This information will be included in the Cycling Nutrition Seminar that I will be giving on December 6th.

Dan Shields will be leading two rides this weekend.

Saturday - meet 9:45 am at the Littleton Park & Ride (Santa Fe and Mineral) for a 25-30 mile ride down and around Chatfield Reservoir.

Sunday - meet 9:45 am at the Northglenn Park & Ride (104th and Huron) for a 25-30 mile ride to Ft. Lupton and back.  For those of you who have been cycling all season you can do the 46 mile RMCC ride starting at the same time and location.  Dan will start the RMCC ride but stay with the novices.

THESE ARE THE TRAINING RIDES - this is the lowest mileage and slowest speeds that we will be doing during the season.  Do not hesitate to come out because you are afraid you will get dropped.  The entire purpose of these rides is to get the novices off to a good start for the year.  Like I have mentioned before, your conditioning progresses quite rapidly if you are doing the core exercises and a few rides a week.

Dan and I discussed the possiblity of even creating a few teams later in the year.  While we wouldn't actually race in events we would like to ride the actual Criterium and Time Trial courses just for fun.  And, I would like to see how much further improvement we can gain by riding with other people, intentionally matched with similar abilities, on a regular basis.

SELF-STUDY - here are links to some papers that I wrote last season.  I am way behind on my writing but these are a good start for the novices.
