Sorry for the delayed weekly e-mail. Like the butcher who
backed into his meat grinder - "I've gotten a little behind in my work!"
(Always a classic)
Month one of the training season is gone - that is
8 percent. As I've mentioned before you can wait to "get around to it" or
"think about it" or whatever. JUST DO IT!!!
We had two good rides
this weekend. Took everyone long (33 miles) on Saturday. Got a
little rain but it cleared and the sun came out. Sunday was overcast and a
little cooler. This is still weather that is very comfortable to ride
in. All you need is a long jersey, long cycling pants, a wind jacket, and
glove liners. I also like to wear my cycling vest. If my body is
warm then my arms and legs are happy. You will miss a lot of great cycling
if you use weather as an excuse.
This weekend we transition over to the
RMCC ride schedule (www.rmccrides.com). I have had discussions with
several members of the RMCC board to try and establish a seamless integration of
the training with the group rides. Attached is a document which describes
how a cyclist can progress through the club. We have tried to address a
wide variety of cycling interests and want to make sure that riders select the
appropriate group to ride with comensurate (big word) with their abilities at
that time. We have also tried to plan for specific migration paths to get
you from one group to the other. IT IS NO FUN TO COME ON A GROUP RIDE, GET
DROPPED, AND HAVE TO RIDE ON YOUR OWN. Our goal is to keep that from
happening.
RMCC is an intermediate to advanced cycling club. The
intent is to keep all the rides self-supported with a minimum of "hand-holding"
for lack of a better term. At the same time it is hard for me to
coordinate setting up group rides. So Midlife Cycling will soon be a
sponsor of RMCC and provide formal training in a more appropriate setting than
out on the road. While you can get a lot of hints and tips from other
rides you should be aware that some advice may be wrong or not applicable to
your level of conditioning and goals. I am trying to offer the clinics and
seminars at a reasonable price which mainly offsets the cost of the meeting
facility. Hopefully, sometime soon, I could support an office to offer
more seminars/clinics on a regular basis and at a lower cost.
MEMBERSHIP:
in view of the RMCC - MC relationship I will have to ask that you be a member of
RMCC to participate in the Intermediate Training Group. Attached is the
RMCC application. I will start enforcing this effective Dec 1st. For
those of you on the list who are out of state or don't ride with us for other
reasons I will make exceptions. For DBTC members I don't have this worked
out yet with the DBTC
board.
ALL RIDES
START AT 10:45 AM IN NOVEMBER THRU MARCH
WEEKEND RIDES: Sat - there is an
RMCC ride starting out of 120th & Huron at 10:45 am. Also, we are
holding the Advanced Core Fitness clinic at 9 am. Weatherman is calling
for overcast/rain on Sat so I recommend coming to the clinic!!!
Sun -
Show & Go ride out of Ken Caryl P&R at Ken Caryl Ave and Shaffer Pkwy at
10:45 am. A show & go ride is where you just show up and ride for
30-40 miles with no pre-defined route. This is base-building time so the
rides will be casual and mostly flat.
EXCEPTION TO THE NOV SCHED: we will
do an 68 mile endurance ride out of the Santa Fe & Mineral P&R on Sat
Nov 26th instead of doing the club ride out of Boulder. In December we
will do an 85 mile ride from Cherry Creek Reservoir. These two rides are
to help us ramp up distance for the New Year's Day Century ride.
YET
ANOTHER PROJECT: many of us have a lot of used/spare parts that could benefit
other members. See the start of the Midlife Cycling Store at http://secure.midlifesports.com/home.php?cat=279.
This is still in development SO PLEASE DON'T TRY TO MAKE A PURCHASE. If
you have parts to get rid of and would like to participate in the store please
let me know. We need to work out price, payment, and fulfillment details
together. For high-priced parts it is still better to list them on
eBay. I have an account at eBay/Paypal already set up for my other company
if you want to list something.
Have a great week,
Rick
