  • Dear Rick,

I hope you will find continued improvement in the newsletter this month. I am try to create a standard format and will send it out on Tuesday mornings. It should be quicker to read and easier to find items of specific interest to you. Be sure to visit the Quick Links below for answers to frequent questions.

    On The Road
    Climb

Hard to believe that seven weeks of training is already in the bag. Rides are running about 35-40 miles in length. Last Sunday's ride had quite a bit of climbing. Not many novices showed up so I did the climb. However, because some of us are in the gym doing weights, we will create an alternate flat route if the scheduled ride has climbing.

Next Saturday's ride will be a 68 mile endurance training ride. We will start an hour earlier at 9:45 am from the Santa Fe & Mineral Park and Ride. This is one of those "must ride" rides if you expect to push your distance out. Note that it is an alternate to the RMCC ride scheduled for that day.

    Indoor Workouts

Dan and I are still doing weight training at the Littleton Family YMCA on Mon & Wed evening at 5:30 pm. You can join us, for free, as a guest three times. If you want to continue training with us after that the best thing to do is to buy a punch card.

However, you don't need to join a health club to get your workouts in. I designed the Core Fitness and Advanced Core Fitness routines so that you could do them anywhere and anytime. Start with 6 inch step- ups, hamstring bridges, crunches, and push-ups. Try to do some or all of them every day. I'll be scheduling the exercise clinics again for January if you missed them the first time.

    Food and Nutrition
    Food

Midlife Cycling is not just about cycling - it is about Fitness, Food, and Travel. I've been lazy and haven't updated the food page for quite a while. Also, the recipe links were bad but nobody alerted me to that. So please visit this section of the site if you haven't already.

In addition to being fit for my family good food is what all this cycling effort is about for me. For those of you who don't know me I spent 18 months at culinary school and "restricted diet" is just not in my vocabulary. I hope that you too will find exercise a better alternative to dieting.

    In The Backcountry

I don't have anything formally organized for the high country yet. As I mentioned, I will be talking with several people to see if they would like some company on any of their adventures. If you would like to help organize some cross-country skiing or snowshoe trips for the group please send me an e- mail or call. I've included a link for the Beaver Creek Snowshoe series. I know at least one member of our group is going up on December 10th.

    Wheelin' and Dealin'

Yet another thing I am behind on. The online store is still in development. It is being designed so that RMCC and DBTC members will receive discounts on most items. The way this will work is that you create a profile for yourself in the store and request membership to the DBTC or RMCC group. I will have to check against the membership rosters to verify.

The store actually works and is secure. I just don't have all the item descriptions completed. But you can see what is coming. The Bargain Merchandise section is fully functional. I have more trinkets to photograph and list. If you have items laying around the house you might consider listing them. They may never sell but then again they are just gathering dust anyway. And, you never know what someone new to cycling may need.
